After a Two-Year Investigation, Armie Hammer Escapes Criminal Charges in LA R*pe Case

The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office has announced that it will not be charging Armie Hammer after an extensive two-year investigation into sexual assault allegations against the actor in 2021.

“Sexual assault cases are often difficult to prove, which is why we assign our most experienced prosecutors to review them. In this case, those prosecutors conducted an extremely thorough review, but determined that at this time, there is insufficient evidence to charge Mr. Hammer with a crime. As prosecutors, we have an ethical responsibility to only charge cases that we can prove beyond a reasonable doubt,” said Tiffiny Blacknell, Director of Communications for DA George Gascon, in the statement.

Blacknell noted that the DA’s office was unable to determine that a non-consensual, forced sexual encounter occurred, making it impossible to prove the case against the Call Me By Your Name star.

The statement also emphasized the office’s support services for victims of sexual assault, acknowledging the difficulty of reporting such incidents.

Los Angeles police initiated the investigation against Hammer in May 2021, following public allegations from a woman named Effie, who claimed to have been victimized by the actor in April 2017.

Hammer’s attorney vigorously denied Effie’s claims, asserting that all interactions between Hammer and his sexual partners were consensual, discussed, and agreed upon in advance.

Following the announcement, Hammer expressed gratitude towards the DA’s office for its thorough investigation and indicated his intention to rebuild his life now that his name has been cleared.

In a statement on Instagram, Hammer expressed his relief at the conclusion of the investigation and his readiness to move forward.

He also thanked those who supported him during this challenging time.

The initial investigation against Hammer was triggered when Effie Angelova accused him of victimizing her in April 2017. Angelova claimed that they had an intimate relationship from 2016 to 2020.

She detailed alleged manipulation tactics and abusive behavior by Hammer, including a claim of violent rape over four hours.

Hammer’s lawyer countered these allegations, citing Angelova’s own correspondence with Hammer, and asserting that all interactions were consensual.

The statement also emphasized Hammer’s commitment to setting the record straight and maintaining that all interactions with Angelova were consensual.
